The story follows Kiki, a young coquí who stops singing after a frightening encounter with visitors who don’t appreciate his song. With the help of Lucy, a glowing cucubano (firefly native to Puerto Rico), Kiki sets off on a journey to find his family — and recover his voice.

Along the way, Kiki and Lucy meet iconic animals of the Puerto Rican countryside, including an "Esperanza" cricket, the "Múcaro" owl, the "San Pedrito" (Puerto Rican tody), a rooster, a Puerto Rican parrot, and a honeybee. Each animal has a unique sound, which readers can hear through QR codes integrated in the book.
