Showcasing the work of eleven artists from across the Caribbean, this book -which accompanies the first exhibition organized by the Basel-based Caribbean Art Initiative- offers an encounter with contemporary Caribbean art through the lens of Caribbean curators. With essays by curators Yina Jiménez Suriel and Pablo Guardiola, as well as Marta Aponte Alsina and Rita Indiana, plus interviews with each of the featured artists, it illustrates how notions of cultural emancipation and the long shadow of colonial rule are being interpreted by regional and diasporic artists working today.
