Memory's Tattoo is no the book of just a painter or just a writer or just a player / actor / playwright, although drawing and literature and performative aspects of theater such as monologue and dialogue organize it and iluminate it. It is, rather, the book of a prolific and uncontainable artist in the broadest sense of that Word, a provocateur and a questioner, a man who profoundly moves us anda who helps to clarify the issues of our lives. An artist who is now at the very peak of his creativity.

LUIS RAFAEL SÁNCHEZ

After long "playing around", I finally hit on what the reader reads now: Memory's Tatto. This title managed to work in the "skin" of the original title, and suggested the indelibility of memory upon our lives, but for me it had another "ring" to it, too, because a "tattoo" is also the rhytmic sound of the snare-drum playing a cadence for marching. Thus, the tattoo of memory was not just the indelible arrow-pierced heart on the chest or "Mother" on the bicep, but also the sound and rhythm of memory's narration, the music that memory marched to-and that was important to me, because while the visual and olfactory and tactile are essential elements in this memoir, I believe the orality / aurality of the narration will always be the most immediate part of in the reader's mind.
